A Moment of Reflection and Renewed Determination
Recent events have left many of us feeling uncertain about the future of our environment and the policies that affect it. While it’s natural to feel overwhelmed, now is the time for all of us to come together and strengthen our commitment to addressing the climate crisis. Our planet needs each and every one of us to step up. The escalating Climate and Ecological Emergency demands our full attention and active participation in our daily lives.
The Power of Individual and Collective Action
You might wonder if one person’s actions can truly make a difference. Think about how a single mosquito can disrupt an entire night’s sleep—that’s the impact even the smallest among us can have. When we unite our efforts, the effect multiplies. Dividing ourselves into “us vs. them” only slows progress and distracts from the real issues. Climate change isn’t about personal beliefs; it’s a scientifically proven reality affecting everyone.
Over 97% of climate scientists agree that human activities are driving global warming. We’ve witnessed the consequences firsthand: extreme weather events like wildfires, hurricanes, and heatwaves are becoming more frequent and severe. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warns that without immediate and significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, we risk reaching a point of no return.
Facing Reality and Taking Responsibility
Ignoring the science won’t make the problems disappear. Denial only delays necessary actions and worsens the situation for future generations. If leadership isn’t taking the steps needed to address the climate crisis, it’s up to us to take matters into our own hands.
Educate yourself and others about what’s happening to our planet and what we can do to help. This isn’t just about reducing personal carbon footprints; it’s about building communities that are resilient and adaptable to the changes already underway.
Building Adaptive Resiliency Together
Adaptive resiliency means developing the ability to adjust to new environmental conditions, mitigate potential damages, and cope with the consequences of climate change. We all need to start thinking and acting with this mindset. This involves supporting renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and policies that reduce emissions. It also means preparing our communities for the impacts of climate change that are already occurring.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for joining me in this critical cause. Let’s embark on this journey together, overcoming obstacles and making a tangible difference for ourselves, our children, and the planet we all share.
I conclude with a letter rec’d from Vice President Al Gore to Climate Justice Advocates:
Dear Mr. Alvarez,
For climate advocates across the country, the outcome of this election means that all of us must find ways to redouble our efforts and find bipartisan solutions to the climate crisis that create jobs, promote prosperity and safeguard the future of humanity.
In a moment such as this, it is important to remember that all major reform efforts, from civil rights to the climate movement, suffer dark days. And this is surely one. We can mourn a loss, but we can’t linger in despair. Our planet doesn’t have time for that. Now more than ever, this movement needs engagement and leadership from all corners of the country.
During a down moment in the struggle for civil rights, Martin Luther King, Jr. said something about overcoming days like this: “If you can’t fly, run; if you can’t run, walk; if you can’t walk, crawl; but by all means keep moving.”
We know the line to solutions is never straight or easy. But we have won major victories in tackling the climate crisis and reducing climate pollution in our country, and we will again.
My greatest source of hope comes from the courage and commitment of grassroots leaders and advocates in the US and around the world who are relentlessly pushing for progress. Onward.
